Successful Launch of the Falcon Heavy with the Roman Space Telescope

By Dale Borchardt

The morning of August 30th witnessed the successful launch of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. On board was the new Roman Space Telescope. As the morning sun started to rise over the horizon, the countdown hit 0, and the heavy rocket roared to life.

This marks an historic moment with the new telescope. The main mission of the telescope will be to investigate the mysterious force driving the accelerated expansion of the universe by measuring light from over a billion galaxies. It will also conduct a galactic microlensing survey to discover thousands of new planets outside our solar system. Finally, it will also probe vast swaths of space to understand how galaxies evolve into the cosmic web.
